The Right Way to Apply Blush
Blush is your answer to a pretty, healthy glow. Read our pro tips on where to apply blush to suit your face shape, shade selection and why a powder formulation is your blush bestie. Blush instantly perks up and brightens your entire face. With hues ranging from barely-there peach to warm reds, every skin tone can benefit from blush. Blush, highlighter and bronzer - what’s the difference? Bronzer: Gives you a subtle sun-kissed glow so your skin looks healthy and tan. Apply it to the areas the sun naturally hits the skin - cheekbones, jawline, temples, and nose. Bronzer is also a good choice for heavier contouring. Blush: Adds a flush of colour to the cheeks for a bright, fresh-faced look, usually in pink shade with plum or peach undertones. Blush is applied along the cheekbone and apple of the cheek. Highlighter: Shimmery and lighter than your natural skin tone, highlighter adds a subtle, shimmery radiance to the skin and gently accentuates your features. 🩷 Skin prep & base Applying makeup when your skin isn’t clean results in an uneven, patchy look that won’t stay put. Makeup slides off oily skin and doesn’t sit well on a dry, flaky complexion. With that in mind before we get started on how to apply blush professionally, let’s begin with skin prep for a clean, healthy base. Step 1: Cleanse your skin to remove all impurities and excess oil. Step 2: Gently exfoliate if necessary. Step 3: Apply a hydrating serum to help plump and hydrate your skin. Step 4: Moisturise with a light face oil (suitable for use under makeup) or moisturising lotion. Step 5: Smooth on a priming product. Primer creates a no-slip canvas for your makeup - it won’t slide off your skin. A mineral BB creamand tinted moisturiser are both good choices for primer. Once your skin is prepped you can either apply foundation before blush or, if you’re having a great skin day, simply use blush on your natural base. 🩷 Formula & shade for your skin type Your blush shade goal is to choose a hue that matches your cheek colour when you flush naturally. For a pop of colour, you can go a little more dramatic. Use our handy guide to help you find the right shade of blush for your skin tone. Fair skin tone Peach - natural look Soft pink - natural look Coral - pop of colour Medium skin tone Deep peach - natural look Warm mauve - natural look Rich pink - pop of colour Olive skin tone Rose - natural look Apricot or bronzer - natural look Berry - pop of colour Dark skin tone Warm reds with brown undertones - natural Plum - natural Ruby pink - pop of colour PONi Unicorn Candy blush is an innovative ombré blush with a sunset spectrum of pink hues from soft shimmery peach to bright matte pink. Shades of peach and pink are universally flattering so it's easy to find the perfect match for your skin tone. Picking the right blush formula Blushes come in 3 formulas - powder, cream and stain. Picking your perfect blush formula depends on your skin. Powder: Great for all skin types (especially oily ones) easy to apply and achieve ‘poreless’ airbrushed finish. PONi Unicorn Candy blush is a silky powder - meaning it is not too drying or too oily - ideal for all skin types. Cream: Cream blushes offer a natural dewy finish but steer clear if you have oily skin. Stain: 🩷 How to put on blush How to put blush onthe right way starts with the right brush! Choose a dome-shaped blush brush with long, super-soft bristles that splay out nicely. The fluffier the brush, the less product it will pick up which, in the case of blush, is a good thing. Brushes with tightly packed bristles can pick up a lot of product and transfer a clown-worthy amount of colour to your face. Stick with a fluffy brush for a gentle wash of colour without harsh lines. To apply the blush, simply swirl the brush in the product and tap off excess powder. Removing extra blush means you won’t end up with a slab of colour on your cheeks. 🩷 Where to put on blush Exactly where to apply blush depends on your face shape. Use our guide below for the most flattering blush application methods for different face shapes. Applying blush for a round face If you have a round face shape, the sides of your face curve slightly outward, rather than being straight. Cheekbones are the widest part of your face and your chin is also rounded. Applied correctly, blush can help a round face look more angular and lifted. Apply blush slightly lower than the apples of your cheeks and extend the line of colour up, towards the hairline using a swirling motion to blend. Applying blush for a heart-shaped face High cheekbones and wide forehead that strongly tapers toward a narrow chin is the key characteristic of a heart-shaped face. Blush can help accentuate your high cheekbones. Start by applying blush on the low part of the apples of your cheeks. Then take the colour in a semicircle towards the hairline and finish at the temples. Applying blush for a square face Apply blush directly to the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion which will help soften the edges of your jawline. Applying blush for a diamond face If you have a diamond face shape, your forehead and jawline are a similar width, cheekbones are high and angular with a pointed chin. Where to apply blush for a diamond face? Your goal is to draw attention upward and soften your features. Do this by applying blush to the tops of your cheekbones and, with a swirling motion, blend outward toward your ears. Applying blush for an oval face Have an oval shaped face? Lucky you! Often considered the ideal face shape, the oval face is already in proportion. It’s very versatile for a blush application. Start at the apples of your cheeks and sweep the blush backwards towards your temples using a circular motion. Now you know how to apply blush professionally, get the only blush you’ll ever need!
Cream or Powder Contour
An age-old question that has divided people for centuries: cream or powder contour? Okay, that’s a little dramatic but hey, we’re really passionate about this! When it comes to giving you cheekbones that could cut class, we all know that contour is the holy-grail product, but whether you reach for a cream or powder contour, that’s really up to you. Each has its pros and cons, so let’s dive in… Cream Contour Cream contour is here for all of you that love to take things up to 11. Sucking your cheeks in and applying cream contour to the hollows is going to give you a dramatic look that will have your Instagram blowing up. Create a light shadow effect with a couple of dabs of cream, or really step it up with a full sweep of colour. If you’ve got skin on the dryer side and you find that powder contour can grab at any dry or flaky patches, cream contour might just be the answer to your prayers. It won’t collect on dry skin and will make you look gorgeous and glowy. While we love ourselves a cream contour, it can have some drawbacks you should know about before going wild with it. If you’re new to the world of contour (welcome, we’re so glad you’re here!), creams can be a little more difficult to use and blend. If you’re not totally across how to use it, cream contour has the potential to be unforgiving. Plus, if you’ve got oily skin, cream contours can shift throughout the day. Powder Contour There’s a reason powder contouring has a cult-like following. It is super easy to apply so whether you’re a contour beginner or a seasoned pro, you’ll be able to create a defined look. Powder contour also lends itself to a more natural, yes-I-really-am-this-snatched look which is perfect for everyday makeup. If you’ve got a case of oily skin, powder contour is stepping in to be your new best friend. It won’t move throughout the day so no matter how shiny you are, you’ll still look like you were carved by gods. Having said that, if you’ve got dry skin, don’t despair, a powder contour will work just as well paired with a dewy foundation, without drying you out even more. Contouring with powder can also give you a sun-kissed wash of colour when (very lightly) brushed over the face with a large powder brush. In this case though, please, please go gentle and tap off any excess powder. How to Apply Powder Contour So, how do you apply powder contour? So glad you asked. The first step is to grab your powder contour. May we suggest the PONi Cosmetics Unicorn Chocolate Bronzer? The silky texture effortlessly blends and creates the perfect glow. For brushes, either a big, fluffy one or an angled brush will do the trick. Dip your brush in, tap off any excess powder, then visualise a three (trust us, there is method in the madness). Starting from the corner of your forehead, a little further towards the centre of your head than your temple, draw a three. Sweep your brush from the top point, around the edge of your face, under your cheekbones, back out towards the bottom of the ear and then under the jawline. In a matter of seconds you’ll have a chiselled jawline and cheekbones - easy! No matter which side of the cream vs. powder contour debate you’re on, carving out your face has never been easier. Hollywood's Best Eyebrows 2022
The stars of Hollywood have forever been a source of inspiration for beauty looks. Just think of the winged liner look of Audrey Hepburn, the mile long lashes of Twiggy, or the luscious blowout of Cindy Crawford. When it comes to brows, here at PONi, we’re a little obsessed with the arches of celebrities. Tinseltown is home to some killer brows and 2021 has shown us just how good they can be. We’ve shortlisted five of our favourites right here (trust us, this was a hard one). Plus, we’ll teach you how to recreate their looks so you can finally say, “stars, they’re just like us!” LILY COLLINS Image Credit - Instagram @lilyjcollins It wouldn’t be a ‘best brows’ list without the queen of the arches herself, Lily Collins. They weren’t always so striking though. Like the rest of us, Lily fell victim to the late nineties trend of over plucking. That was until her mother put an end to that, thank goodness! In fact, now she doesn’t let anyone touch them. In an interview with GLAMOUR UK, she said, “I do it all myself - I simply look in a magnifying mirror, get the tweezers and follow the line. I really think less is more and I like to mess them up.” If you’re not genetically blessed with Lily’s full arches (because let’s be real, who is?), you’ll want something to help build volume and keep the hairs lifted and in place. The Mane Stain Brow Creme will tint the brows with colour that lasts all day and night. It has buildable pigment and being a creme, locks your brows in place. Grab your Pro Brow Brush and use the spoolie end to brush them up, then dip the brush into the creme and use short strokes to fill in the brows. Let the compliments roll in. SHAY MITCHELL Image Credit - Instagram @shaymitchell Shay Mitchell; an actress whose brows you need to get familiar with ASAP. With arguably some of the best brows on television, she favours a full, brushed up look. A brow lamination without the rigid and borderline crusty effect of lamination - sign us up! Fill in your brows using the Brow Magic Universal Brow Pencil. Not too heavily though, just enough to create your perfect shape and hide any patchy areas. Now, here’s the step you really don’t want to miss for Shay-esque brows: Brush the brows up (yup, up, not across) using the Zebra Clear Brow Gel to really lock the hairs in place. This will make your arches look that much fuller and fluffier. Basically your brows, but better! DUA LIPA Image Credit - Instagram @nikki_makeup Not only is Dua Lipa one of the world’s biggest pop stars of the moment, she has incredible style and some seriously killer brows. No, we’re not jealous at all! Her brow style is thick, thick, thick. The starlet prefers a more unruly look and really makes a case for a low-maintenance vibe. Her brow shape is more on the straighter side, showing that understanding what shape looks best on you is always step number one. To get brows fit for Dua Lipa, most of us should be beelining for the Lash and Brow Growth Serum. Giving your brows a dose of this serum will stimulate sluggish hair follicles for fuller brows with the kind of volume that would stop traffic. To quickly and easily fill in any sparse patches, the Brow Love Soft Brow Pencil will create soft lines with a fluffy finish, all with pigment to die for. ZENDAYA Image Credit - Instagram @zendaya Our style and beauty icon, Zendaya, has to be on this list. You’ll often catch us drooling over her latest red carpet look and shamelessly zooming in on her brows. There’s an art to the gorgeously natural Zendaya brow; light to dark. Hear us out. Grab your Brow Duo Powder and your Pro Brow Brush to master this look. Use the lighter shade to fill in the inner corner of your brow to keep this looking natural and avoiding the blocky brows of years past. Once you get to the body of the brow, switch to the darker colour down the tail. This will give you those iconic Zendaya ombré arches that will make them the feature of your look. MARGOT ROBBIE Image Credit - Instagram @margotrobbieofficial We would be remiss to not include an Aussie icon in our best brows rundown, and who better than Margot Robbie? Being a blonde, anything super thick and heavy in the brow department would look unnatural and just a liiiitle bit crazy. Something light and feathery, with an arch sharp enough to kill thanks to some strategic highlighting will do the trick. Two of our best selling brow products, the Brow Magic and the Brow Pop! are going to get you there. The Brow Magic is your everyday brow saviour that literally couldn’t be easier to use. Brush your brows up with the spoolie, then create your shape with the sharp precision end. Last but definitely not least, use the highlighting end of the Brow Pop! under the arch to give you an instant facelift that Margot herself would be proud of. Makeup That is Good For Your Skin
Hands up if you’ve ever not worn makeup because it breaks you out, clings to dry patches, or shifts around throughout the day. Go on, put those hands up. Want to know a secret? There is such a thing as makeup that is good for your skin. We know, we were shocked too! That means you can experience that confidence boost and the beautiful artistry of makeup, without damaging your skin. Let’s dive into the wonderful world of makeup with skincare. Ingredients in Makeup That are Good For Your Skin Makeup that lasts all day, doesn’t dry out your skin, and doesn’t block your pores really isn’t too much to ask for. You just need to know what to look for when you’re stocking your makeup bag. Mineral makeup has a cult following in our office, and for very good reason! It is light, doesn’t clog pores, and is packed with skin-loving minerals like zinc and iron - so it’s like makeup with skincare. It does not include oils and fragrances, which means it is great for those with oily or sensitive skin - plus everyone else! Zinc also gives you a little extra UV protection - in addition to the sunscreen you’re wearing, right? The best part of mineral makeup is how light it feels on the skin. Seriously, you’ll forget you’re wearing it. If you have oily skin, consider makeup with clay in it. No, we haven’t lost our minds, bear with us! Clay helps to absorb excess sebum and that means less acne. Kaolin clay is especially non-irritating and helps to calm any redness. Hyaluronic acid in makeup is an absolute dream for dry skin. Think of it like a big drink of water, it keeps the skin hydrated and plump. So, if makeup tends to cling to and emphasise dry patches, using makeup with hyaluronic acid will keep that flakiness at bay. Speaking of those of us with dry skin, vitamin E (or as it commonly shows up in an ingredient list, shea butter) is ultra nourishing and moisturising. It helps to protect the skin barrier and stops any hydration loss. Ingredients in Makeup to Avoid For all of our oily skinned beauties, you’re going to want to avoid comedogenic ingredients in your makeup (as well as in your skincare). They are more likely to clog pores and for acne-prone skin, that’s a hard pass, thank you. Avoid ingredients like coconut, palm or avocado oils. If you have dry skin, they shouldn’t cause any problems but aren’t the go for oily skin. Parabens and synthetic fragrances can also irritate sensitive skin and should be avoided wherever possible. They can cause redness, itchiness or in some extreme cases, an allergic reaction. Plus, they’re just not going to do anything good for your skin so why take the risk? Makeup Products That are Good For Your Skin By now, you’ll know we’re life-long members of the mineral makeup fan club. All of the PONi Cosmetics Cheek Makeup is mineral makeup, so they don’t contain any oils or pore-clogging ingredients. They are also super blendable and won’t cling to any dry patches. They are seriously great for any and all skin types. Oh, and did we mention how darn pretty they are? Cover all bases with the Chocolate Bronzer, the Champagne Highlighter and the Candy Blush. The trio are highly pigmented, vegan and contain ingredients that are good for the skin. While we’re on our favourite topic of mineral makeup, our sister esmi Skin Minerals, has a beautiful range of mineral base makeup, including the Liquid Mineral Foundation and the Mineral BB Cream. They feel so lovely and light on, are great for all skin types, and will not clog your pores. They both contain SPF 15 protection, which is a little bonus on top of your sunscreen. Both the BB Cream and Liquid Foundation have hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin, as well as vitamin E to keep all of that moisture locked in. If you’re a full coverage lover, go for the Liquid Mineral Foundation, and if you prefer something a little lighter, the BB Cream is the way to go. If your skin is on the oily side, no doubt you’re already best friends with a translucent powder. The esmi Translucent Mineral Powder will keep your makeup in place and minimise shine, as all good powders should, but is also makeup with skincare. It contains aloe vera to calm any acne irritation, as well as kaolin clay to absorb oils and sebum so they don’t clog your pores. What a clever little thing! Flaky, congested, irritated skin after a day of makeup? Yeah, we don’t know her. It’s time to switch to makeup that is good for the skin. Shop our full range of makeup here.
Know What’s in Your Makeup
Of course, you always want your makeup to perform, after all, you’ve got places to go and people to see and you can’t be looking shiny or patchy! Having said that, your makeup is sitting on your face for hours on end, so the last thing you want is for it to be packed with ingredients that are not only bad for your skin, but bad for the environment. Be honest, do you know what your makeup is made of? If you’re anything like us, you’re a bit obsessed with the ingredients that are going on your face and body. That’s why we’re going to do a deep dive into makeup ingredients to avoid and the ones you should be reaching for instead. Time to get your magnifying glass out and take a look at the ingredients in your makeup… Top Ingredients to Avoid Parabens Parabens are preservatives and get a really bad wrap in the cosmetics world, and for good reason. They can really mess with your hormones and are linked to breast cancer. Now take a deep breath. Most cosmetics, if they contain parabens, contain only a very small amount, but we’re not ones to take risks when it comes to our skin. Plus, parabens can be quite irritating for those of us with sensitive skin, so best to avoid butyl, propyl and ethyl parabens. Non-Natural Fragrances Some cosmetic brands like to throw ‘fragrance’ in the ingredients list, but here’s an insider secret: that is just a fancy word for a whole bunch of chemicals in makeup that have a scent. Oftentimes, these chemicals are not disclosed and could be causing some serious irritation. Our products contain no synthetic fragrances because caring for your skin is way more important than what it smells like. Phthalates Speaking of fragrances, phthalates are chemicals in makeup often found under the guise of perfumes. In some extreme cases, it can cause cancers and disrupt hormones. Plus, it is harmful to the environment as it can accumulate in waterways and aquatic animals. No thanks! It is slowly being phased out, thank goodness, but it is still worth being cautious of synthetic fragrances. Other names it could be hiding under include DEP, DBP or DEHP. Formaldehyde Releasers Formaldehyde is a known carcinogenic and can cause allergies and sensitivity. It is rarely found in cosmetics, but some ingredients can decompose and release formaldehyde. Eeek! The makeup ingredients known to commonly release formaldehyde include DMDM hydantoin, bronopol and diazolidinyl urea, so best to avoid these. Certain Sulfates Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) are makeup ingredients to avoid. They can cause sensitivity, irritation, reactions, allergies and the dreaded acne. Definitely makeup ingredients to say “see ya” to. What to Look For In Makeup Now onto the good news: there are some really great ingredients in cosmetics out there. Each and every PONi Cosmetics product is paraben free so you don’t need to worry about any risk to your health or any skin sensitivity. Our gorgeous PONi customers come first, always! Our Lip Magic Balm is rich in ingredients like castor oil to protect your lips and deeply moisturise them. No quick reliefs here, just long-lasting nourishment. Our White Knight Mascara and Lash and Brow Growth Serum contain biotin, and here at PONi HQ, we’re big fans. It is a natural hair growth stimulator, helping promote full lashes and brows. Seriously, you’re going to wonder how you survived without biotin before. Cruelty-Free Ingredients We’re always proud to say that our products are all cruelty-free, meaning we never, ever test on animals. We could be biased, but we would only use cruelty-free makeup - there’s no real need to test on animals, so why would we? You might also be on the hunt for vegan makeup if you want to make animal welfare a focus of your makeup routine (we love to see it!). In the skin care world, that means the product contains no animal products including beeswax, lanolin or gelatin, just as some examples. The important thing to remember is that products can be vegan without being cruelty-free. Likewise, they can be cruelty-free without being vegan. So if you want complete animal welfare to be a priority of your makeup bag, look for products that are both! We work hard to create cosmetics that are free from any nasty ingredients so you can love the way they perform and how they treat your skin. If you want to know more, chat to our customer service team or check out the list of ingredients on each product. Shop our full range here.
What is Tubing Mascara?
A tubing mascara can do it all. Lengthen, volumise, lift, and curl your natural lashes - without smudging or messy removal. Here’s why we love clever tubing mascara... and you will too! Length, volume and lift with the “tubing” formula Instead of coating your lashes with colour like traditional mascara, the "tubing" formula encircles each lash with its own water proof pigmented polymer tube. The result? Volume, length and longevity without the messy flakes and fall down. These water resistant tubes don’t smudge or break but they’re super easy to remove. Clump-free lashes Lashes with tubular mascara are a clump free zone. Unlike a traditional mascara which can quickly clump short or fine lashes with coat after coat, each tube grabs the individual lash and lifts. There are no clumps or product transference to your skin, just a clean, wide-awake effect with effortless length. Ideal for sensitive eyes Tubing mascara is ideal if you have sensitive, reactive eyes prone to watering, wear contact lenses, or have lash extensions. Ok, now we’ve answered your question “What is tubular mascara?” it’s time to meet the best one on the market! How is The White Knight Mascara is different from the rest? What makes The White Knight Tubing Mascara so special? Unique 2 step wand for volume and length While the ‘wrapping tube’ technique is ideal for lengthening, many tubing mascaras on the market might leave you feeling a bit *meh* on the volume front. The White Knight is different. It’s the best tubing mascara because it’s all about epic length and volume. The secret is in The White Knight’s clever two-step application. The mascara can be used in two ‘modes’. One is designed to achieve length and the other designed for volume. The Volume mode delivers more product for lush volumising action. You unscrew the brush at the top of the tube for Volume mode. Switch to Length mode by unscrewing the brush at the top. Lengthening mode removes excess product and lets you use the brush right to the tips of the lashes for length and separation. There's zero wastage switching between the 2 modes as the excess product stays inside the tube! Check out our little Insta reel to see the Length and Volume modes in action. You’ll get a beautiful lifted curl that makes your eyes appear bigger. Even the straightest lashes don’t stand a chance - The White Knight tubular mascara will have them curling upwards instantly. Always apply tubular mascara to clean, completely dry lashes. This helps the mascara form the tube and hold it in place without sliding off. If your lashes are wet when applying a tubing mascara, the application won’t be optimal. Easy wash off formula No one loves a messy clean up. Luckily, The White Knight formula is the stuff easy-removal dreams are made of. All you need is warm water to remove this tubing mascara. That’s literally it! The tubes are designed to slide off quickly and easily with warm water - no tugging, pulling or panda eyes here. Simply splash your face gently with warm water to loosen the tubes then wash or wipe them away. Perfect for the delicate eye area and sensitive skin types who can’t handle makeup removers. Plus you'll skip the toxins in so many synthetic makeup removers. The White Knight can be used over lash extensions too and the easy clean up means you won’t damage them during removal. Great value With a super generous 12g of product (most other mascaras contain 5 - 10g) The White Knight is the best value tubing mascara out there! Promotes growth of your natural lashes The White Knight formula is brimming with growth and conditioning ingredients - arginine, biotin and peptides. These ingredients work to strengthen and stimulate the growth of your natural lashes. Win! The White Knight is cruelty-free A win for your lashes and our animal friends. Key Places to Apply Highlighter ✨
Wondering where to apply highlighter? Wonder no more. Our foolproof cheat sheet covers the 5 key places to apply highlighter. You’ll be on your way to glow pro in no time. Why does highlighter deserve a spot in your makeup bag anyway? Highlighter adds a subtle, oh-so-shimmery radiance to the skin and while gently accentuating your features. Here’s the key lesson of highlighting school; any feature you highlight comes forward on your face. It’s essentially the opposite of contouring, which makes things recede. Keep that in mind as you make your way through the steps below - you might skip any features you’d prefer to down play. Choosing a Highlighter Before we dive into how to apply highlighter, you need to decide what type of product to use - powder, cream, or liquid. If you’re a highlighter beginner, we suggest choosing a powder. The application is easier to control, quicker than a cream or liquid, the colour is super buildable and powder suits all skin types. Powders are also less precise than cream or liquid highlighters, which really gives you that all-over shimmer radiance. If you haven’t already met our Unicorn Champagne Highlighter, now is the time to get acquainted! Perfect beginners and experts, this silky ombré powder highlighter builds from a soft champagne dayglow to a warm champagne sparkle. Universally flattering, the richly-pigmented champagne shade suits every complexion allowing you to build and sculpt until the highlight level is just right for cheeks, brow bone, nose and eyes. Where to Apply Highlighter Highlighter is the final step in your makeup routine. Think of it as the radiant cherry on top! Work through the steps in your usual routine - primer, foundation / BB cream, powder, blush and/ or bronzer - then use a setting spray to set the look. Now we’re ready to answer the question you came here asking “Where does highlighter go?” Grab a soft, fan-shaped makeup brush (ideal for highlighter) and let’s do this! Step 1: Highlight Cheekbones You want to add highlighter to the high points of the cheeks where the light typically reflects on the skin. Load your brush with a powder highlighter, tap off the excess, then apply to the top of the cheekbones. Use small, circular buffing motions to blend in with your blush and bronzer to tie it all together. Step 2: Highlight the Bridge of Your Nose Depending on your nose shape, highlighting along the bridge can be flattering. It makes your nose appear longer and slimmer. Use a smaller fluffy makeup brush for this step. Tilt your head down and starting at the top of the bridge (between your eyes) take the highlighter down your nose, stopping before the tip. You can add a very subtle touch of highlighter to the tip to give your nose a slightly lifted effect. Don’t go overboard though. It’s a quick slip into Rudolph territory! Step 3: Highlight the Inner Corners of Your Eyes Highlighter is so pretty to apply to your inner eye area. It really brightens and wakes up your eyes for an I-got-8-hours-of-solid-beauty-sleep effect. Press a clean finger into the powder and dab gently into your inner eye area. Step 4: Highlight Cupid’s Bow How to use highlighter on your mouth? By highlighting your Cupid’s Bow. This gives the illusion of a fuller and more defined top lip. Switching back to your fan-shaped makeup brush, lightly dust the highlighter onto your Cupid’s Bow. Step 5: Highlight the Centre of Your Forehead Why highlight the centre of your forehead? It adds dimension and helps illuminate your entire face. Also, if you’ve gone a little overboard with a bronzer, your face can look quite flat. Highlighting can accentuate your forehead and help counteract your enthusiastic bronzer use. Simply dust highlighter in the shape of an inverted triangle in the centre of your forehead and blend. Eyebrow Trends: Brushed Up Brows
The 2000s brought us over-plucked, pencil-thin brows (we get chills just thinking about it) while the 2010s featured the dark and blocky brows of Instagram. So, what do the 2020s have in store for our brows? Welcome to the era of fluffy, brushed up brows! The soft, feathery brow comes off the back of the age of the big, bushy look (we have the gorgeous Cara Delevingne to thank for that), now with a more minimalistic and natural twist. As we have pared back our makeup in recent times for an effortless look that takes a fraction of the time (20 minutes on our brows is a big “no thank you”), the features that frame our face are no different. The best part? It is a look that compliments everyone! Of course, if you’ve naturally got full and lush brows, you’re already on your way! If years of over plucking has left you a little lacking in this department (love, we’ve all been there), brushed up brows are still very much on your horizon. You’re just going to need a liiiitle bit of a helping hand. Luckily, we’ve got you. How to Achieve Fluffy, Brushed Up Brows Your secret weapon to master the art of fluffy brows is the humble spoolie. Grab your trusty Brow Magic and use the spoolie end to brush them up. The aim is to position the hairs in the perfect shape. Don’t worry about being too precious - the days of the over-styled brow are over so feel free to go wild. Now if you’re anything like us, you’ve got a few sparse areas that could do with some TLC. This is where the other end of the Brow Magic comes in. Fill in the gaps with this universal colour in short strokes to mimic hairs. Patchy brows are a thing of the past, if we have anything to do with it! Set and forget with the Zebra Clear Brow Gel. Brush the brows up and lock them into place all day. Now go bask in all of those compliments. Gigi Hadid ain’t got nothing on you. Brushed up brows pair perfectly with a dewy, natural makeup look. Although, if you’re into a look that packs more of a punch, don’t worry, the simplicity of the brushed up brows will make the rest of your look sing. Can I Make My Brows Grow Thicker? If the 2000s hit you hard and your brows are still quaking, you might need a helping hand growing out sparse brows. We’ve developed a tube filled with a magic potion (read: serum with heavily researched and proven ingredients) to help build thicker brows and lashes. The Lash and Brow Growth Serum contains biotin to stimulate keratin production and increase hair growth. Sign us up! It does require a bit of patience, but most people start to see results in just four weeks. And for goodness sake, stay away from the tweezers! We know it’s tempting to want to tidy up here and there, but trust us, putting the tweezers down will allow your brows to grow out and have their fluffy moment. The brushed up brow look isn’t going anywhere any time soon, so grab your spoolie and brow gel and own it! Shop all of our brow products right here.

The Beginner's Guide to Bronzer
We break down how to apply bronzer properly for an envy-inducing, sun-kissed glow instead of a streaky orange mess! Here’s our beginner proof guide for how to apply bronzer the right, radiant way. Beginner's Guide to Bronzer What does bronzer do? Your bronzing goal is to add warmth to your skin, not slabs of colour that resemble a fake tan. Done right, bronzer will frame your face with a subtle glow for healthy, sun-kissed looking skin. Where does bronzer go? Bronzer isn’t designed to cover your entire face - you’ll end up more orange Oompa Loompa than healthy, bronzed goddess! So, where does bronzer go? The golden rule for a golden glow is applying bronzer to the areas where the sun naturally hits your skin; cheeks, hairline, and temple. To add a little more definition, bronzer can be applied along your jaw bone too. Let’s break down how to apply bronzer correctly in each of these 3 places: Cheeks Bronzer gives your cheeks and cheekbones beautiful definition and a lit-from-within glow. Where do you put bronzer on your cheeks? Focus on the apple of your cheek and blend along your cheekbone. Step 1: Take a large, fluffy bronzing brush and swirl it into the bronzing powder and tap off any excess. Step 2: Run a line of bronzer from your ear to the apple of your cheek. Step 3: Blend the bronzer out using tiny swirling brush motions. Avoid ‘back and forth’ brush strokes as this won’t deliver the airbrushed, perfectly blended result the swirling motion will. The bronzer on your cheeks should be slightly heavier than your temples and hairline. Temples & hairline Applying bronzer to your temple and hairline continues the subtle glow from your cheeks for an even, natural look. Step 1: Load the brush again, tapping off any excess product. Step 2: Apply bronzer across your natural hairline by lightly moving the brush in small circular motions, from one temple to the other. Jawline A little bronzer on your jawline gives the illusion of more sculptured features. Remember, bronzer is best used to add warmth and subtle definition rather than a full-on contouring product. Step 1: With your brush loaded, sweep bronzer along your jawline running from underneath your chin and finishing just before reaching your ear. Step 2: Next, take a clean brush along your jawline in swirling motions to blend everything together. How to apply bronzer Choose the right brush Using the right makeup brush will make a world of difference when applying bronzer. For an even, natural glow using a dome-shaped, soft powder brush is a foolproof choice. We recommend Crown Brush’s selection of cruelty-free brushes for bronzer and blush application. Don’t be heavy handed A light touch is key for getting that subtle sun-kissed shimmer. Being heavy handed can leave you with a thick, streaky look. Using a soft brush, as suggested above, helps keep the application light too. Remove excess bronzer Using powder bronzer? You don’t want to go in with too much product at once. Always tap the brush to remove excess product. It’s easier to build up colour than remove it. Blend, blend, blend Bronzer is all about blending for a natural *no streaks here* look. Use small circular motions to blend and make it even easier by applying a very thin layer of loose setting powder before going in with the bronzer. Best bronzer products for beginnerss PONi Unicorn Chocolate Bronzer is the best bronzer for beginners. This silky bronzing ombre pressed powder effortlessly blends from light to a dark bronze for instant, sun-kissed luminosity to flatter all skin tones. Secrets to French Girl Beauty
Minimal, effortless makeup and lit-from-within skin. French girl beauty is about embracing your natural features, not trying to change your face or cover up every imperfection. Adore this not-too-done approach? Read on. We’re sharing the secrets to mastering french makeup. Less is more French girl beauty starts with the skin. French women take incredible care of their skin to achieve a naturally healthy, glowing complexion. With a luminous bare base, foundation really isn’t a must. Many French women skip it and simply use a little concealer or a tinted moisturiser. The idea is to correct blemishes - if needed - rather than hide the skin. If you’re after a little more coverage, BB cream is a good option for french girl makeup. Glow from the inside out Eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and proteins plus sipping plenty of water is #1 on the list of french beauty tips. A healthy diet is the key to a lit-from-within glow and the more radiant your skin is the less makeup you need. Highlighter You can also give your natural glow a subtle boost with a light application of highlighter. The French beauty way isn’t about heavy-handed, cakey highlighting it’s about subtly bringing light to and accentuating your best features. We suggest Unicorn Champagne Highlighter to achieve a gorgeous french makeup radiance. Using a soft, fan-shaped makeup brush very lightly dust the high points of your cheekbones where the light naturally reflects on your skin. Add just a touch to your Cupid’s bow too, and you’re done. Apple blush and bronzer with a light hand There’s no place for heavy Kardashian-style contouring in french makeup. Use blush in pink or apricot shades to create delicately flushed cheeks and a light dusting of bronzer to add warmth. Neither should be overdone so the result is a fresh, healthy glow. Blush Create a natural flush with Unicorn Candy Blush. Lightly swirl the blush onto the apples of your cheeks where you naturally blush. The ombre palette lets you choose from a spectrum of pink hues from soft shimmery peach to bright matte pink to find your perfect colour match. Bronzer Once your cheeks are French flushed, use Unicorn Chocolate Bronze to frame your face with a warm sun kissed glow. Choose the lightest colour in the ombre palette and with a light hand, using a kabuki brush, apply bronzer to your cheekbones. Then dust bronzer along your temples and across the bridge of your nose - these are the areas where the sun naturally hits your face. If you want a little more definition, take the bronze down along your jawline too. But remember, no heavy contouring! Full brows & bold lashes French girl makeup calls for full, fluffy, natural looking brows. Brow powder is a great choice because it creates soft brows with dimension minus the harsh lines. It’s also easier to tidy up any mistakes with powder vs other brow products. Even if you’re struggling with less-than-voluminous natural arches, armed with the right brow products your French makeup look is totally doable. Brows First, take a spoolie brush and brush upwards through clean brows to separate the hairs. Then, dip an angled brush into Brow Duo Powder and move the brush upward using light, feather-like strokes that mimic natural hairs. You want your brows to look full, but not overfilled. Now, use the spoolie to brush through the hairs again to bring them back into place. Finish the look by swiping on Zebra Clear Brow Gel for long-lasting hold and a gorgeous glossy sheen. Lashes French girl lashes? Long, voluminous and curled. Curling your lashes is one of the french beauty tips that’s simple, quick and has a big payoff. After curling, you can leave your lashes bare or add a slick of mascara to add volume, length, and frame the eyes. The White Knight is your go-to for beautifully long, lifted, and voluminous lashes. Plus, the waterproof tubular formulation means no flaky fall down while still being super easy to remove - all you need is warm water. Pick One Thing to Highlight The core tenant of french makeup is choosing to play up either your eyes with a smoky look or your lips with a bold liner - but never both. Eyes Choosing knock-out eyes? An imperfect, smudged smokey eye is so French beauty. Take an eyeliner pencil and line all around the eye and also in between the lashes for a really defined look. Then, using Smudge Proof Liquid Eyeliner go over the pencil to deepen the pigment and make everything smooth. Next take a eyeshadow colour of your choice and apply all over the lid. Coffee-coloured hues are perfect for a subdued and romantic feel or stick with darker colours like grey for more drama. Blend into the liner to soften and smudge the edges. Lips Want to go for low-key eyes and play up your lips instead? Red lips are a must. The trick to apply lipstick in true french girl beauty style is to use your fingers to diffuse the colour. Take your lipstick and make one continuous swipe across the lips. Then, with a clean finger, blend the lipstick in. You can build the colour in the centre by tapping the lipstick onto your lips. 4 Bold Eye Makeup Looks We Love
Looking forward to a big event? Get ready to wow with bold eye makeup! A special occasion is a perfect chance to try something a little different. We’ve put together 4 statement eye makeup looks to get you inspired. These looks seem intimidating at first, but broken down step by step they’re actually easy to achieve! Don't worry if you're a beginner, we got you girl! Check first our tips on how to apply eyeshadow here. Look 1: Hollywood Glamour Eye Makeup Glamour eye makeup is a popular trend. Take your cue from the beauties of old Hollywood with beautiful winged eyeliner, voluminous lashes and a defined brow. Pair with a ruby-red lip and your look is complete. Eyes For the lids, you’ll need eyeshadow in a neutral-toned base colour of your choice and a darker complementary colour. With a flat brush, begin by applying the base colour over the entire lid. Next, switch to the darker colour, blending it into a V shape in the outer corner of your eye. Cut the crease to create a shadow that widens and defines your eye. With your eye shadow sorted, it’s time to draw on a classic cat eye winged look. To start, use a soft kohl pencil to draw your cat eye - it’s easier to correct mistakes using a pencil to begin with. When you’re happy with the shape of your cat eye in kohl, go over it with a black waterproof liquid liner to build colour intensity. Finish your glamour eye makeup with mascara or lengthy, voluminous lashes. Brows Sculptured brows are quintessential here. Classic and beautiful, they define the eye for a real statement look. Start by mapping of the shape of your brows with Brow Magic. Next, take a spoolie brush and comb hairs downward. Then, with Brow Magic use small flicking motions in the direction of your hair growth to fill them in. To create a more sculpted brow shape, make a slight peak (we mean slight - you don’t want a scary surprised look) where your natural arch is. Brush your hairs out again to fluff them up and blend out any harsh lines. Lips Pair with a statement red lip and your look is complete! For this look we recommend: Brow Magic, The White Knight, and Pegasus Liquid Liner. Look 2: Smokey Eye Smokey Eye inspired by Mia Connor Smokey eye makeup is a classic favourite. And ‘smokey eye’ doesn’t mean you’re limited to black or grey colours. You can use a bronze and chocolate palette for this bold eye makeup look too! Eyes For the base, choose a chocolaty / bronze hue with a little shimmer and sweep it across the entire eyelid. Apply it with a firm, flat eyeshadow brush. Next, take a matte taupe colour shadow and using a blending brush apply it across the socket line to create a ‘halo’ effect transitioning from the chocolatey base colour. Take it a little higher than the socket line but not too far. From here, choose a subtle pink shade and using a blending brush take it along the edges of the taupe colour to blend and right up to the eyebrow. Under the eye, using an angled eyebrow brush take the first chocolate colour and blend across the bottom rim. Next, take the taupe colour and shadow it under the chocolate, keeping the edges nice and soft. Using a light, shimmery pink, highlight the inner corners of the eye and finish with mascara. Cheeks You just want a light, subtle glow on the apples of the cheeks. Choose a peachy pink colour for the blush. Then take a highlighter and dust across the cheekbones closer to the eye socket and a touch across the cupid’s bow. Lips Finish with a subtle pinky peach lip colour. For this look we recommend: The White Knight. Look 3: Graphic Liner Graphic Liner inspired by Mia Connor Graphic liner is a modern, edgy look. Who said you have to follow the crowd? Stand out with this fun graphic look. Eyes Using a liquid eyeliner on your upper eyelids, draw on a winged look and extend the wing right out for a really exaggerated line. Next, starting from the middle* of your eye draw a second line just above the crease to connect with the end of your wing to create the graphic arrow shape. *You can extend the line further towards the inner eye or shorter than the middle. The further towards your inner eye, the more dramatic the look. Choose a gorgeous metallic, bright, or glittery liquid eyeshadow and fill inside the graphic lines. Finish the look with a slick of mascara. Lips Team your gorgeously graphic eyes with a nude lip. If you’ve used a metallic shadow a muted matte lip will work beautifully. For this look we recommend: Pegasus Liquid Eyeliner and White Knight Mascara. Look 4: Bright Colour Bold and bright inspired by Mia Connor Go bold and bright! Bright colour is a fun eye makeup look that adds vibrancy to any outfit, especially a plain or neutral one. Bright, bold eye makeup is best paired with a coat of mascara and a messy, full brow. First, choose a shade that works with your eye colour. When working bright or neon colours, you can make it really easy by just using a single shade! Get some colour inspo with our little guide here: Blue eyes All shades of pink - especially bold fuchsia tones. Turquoise Gold Orange tones, copper, coral, and bronze Brown eyes Lavender Metallic teal Cobalt blue Green eyes Violet Silver Gold Bold fuchsia Now you’ve got your colour sorted, here’s how to create this statement eye makeup look. Eyes Take your eyeshadow brush loaded with your colour of choice and sweep it across your lids, then use a clean brush to soften any harsh lines. Using a small eye brush you can also line your lower lash line with a smudge of colorful eye shadow too. Tip to fight fall down: Tapping excess eye shadow off your brush before using it minimises the chance of it falling under your eyes. Take your mascara and coat both your top and bottom lashes to really define the eye area. Finish with a touch of highlighter in the inner corners of your eye. Cheeks Choose a peachy pink colour for the blush and use a highlighter along the orbital bone. Lips Try a subtle two-toned lip combination that blends seamlessly to contour the lips for a fuller look. Use a light pink lip colour for the base and a slightly darker hue (in a similar colour match) for the corners blending towards the middle. For this look we recommend: Perfect & Popular bundle which includes The White Knight Mascara, Brow Pop, and Brow Magic! Love these looks? Check out our full range of amazing brow and eye products today. All of our products are designed to be easy to use for everyone, not just professionals.

Here’s how to do perfect winged eyeliner with tape: Cut a 3 cm piece of makeup tape Place the tape along your eye at a diagonal, depending on the type of wing you want Apply eyeliner along the tape line. For a more dramatic eye, you’ll want to draw further along the tape. For a more subtle wing, keep the line shorter Follow your lash line to finish the rest of the eye Remove the tape Behold, a crisp, sharp wing 3. Perfect your brows with concealer Brow makeup tips for beginners don’t get better than this. Use a concealer to cover stray hairs and make your eyebrows look salon fresh all day long. With a brush or your finger, simply apply a light layer of concealer under the brow and blend. This makeup hack also instantly shapes and defines your brows to make them pop! We recommend Brow Pop 3-in-1 Highlighter. This brilliant multi-tasker can be used to conceal, highlight and create an eyeshadow base. 4. Use a lash serum to boost natural lashes Darker, thicker, longer lashes and brows? Yes please. One of our makeup life hacks to enhance your natural beauty is using a lash serum on your brows and lashes. Not all serums can be used for both, but PONi Lash and Brow Serum can be! Tubing mascara Using a tubing mascara is one of the easiest makeup hacks we know to achieve epic, clump free length. What’s so special about tubing mascara? Unlike traditional mascara which can quickly clump short or fine lashes with coat after coat, each tube grabs the individual lash and lifts. The result is a clean, wide-awake effect with effortless length. If you make a mistake, you can simply brush the tubes off with a little spoolie brush or cotton tip. Easy. We recommend getting The White Knight Mascara in your kit. Not only is The White Knight a tubular formula, this genius mascara is also enriched with lash growth and conditioning ingredients to improve the state of your natural lashes. 6. Universal brow pencil for a more forgiving finish More brow makeup tips for beginners: use a universal brow pencil! You can’t go wrong with a shade that complements all types of skin tones and hair colours. Universal brow pencil is ideal for beginners because it’s simple to create full, natural looking arches. Using a brow pencil also makes it a little easier to apply than an eyebrow wax or powder. We recommend checking out our best selling universal brow pencil Brow Magic.
How to Fake a Summer Glow
Fake it till you make it! 3 steps to fake a summer glow with our easy sunkissed makeup tips and the best PONi products for bronzed, bright, shimmery summer skin. Create a Glowing Base Gorgeous sunkissed skin begins with a beautiful base! This creates the perfect foundation to apply your bronzer, blush and highlighter. Prep your skin with a priming sunscreen A great priming sunscreen will help minimise pores and give your skin a smoother look. It will also help your makeup stay put - even in summer time humidity. Most importantly, you’ll have your SPF protection sorted! Apply a BB cream A light, dewy BB cream is ideal for a natural looking, glowing base. BB cream offers a more sheer coverage than foundation - perfect for days in the sun - and offer bonus skin benefits including moisturising and antioxidant factors. Have oily skin? Follow with a light dusting of powder to combat shine. Beachy Bronzer Give skin a sunkissed luminosity with bronzer. This is the first step in your natural sunkissed makeup routine. Take a bronzing brush and apply bronzer to areas where the sun naturally hits your face; cheekbones, bridge of your nose and across your forehead. Use a small circular motion to blend and diffuse harsh lines. Blending is the key to a natural finish so blend, blend, blend! It’s much easier to add more product than it is to take it away. Go easy. Your bronzing goal is to give your skin a healthy-looking warmth, not paint it with streaks of colour. A simple tip to avoid going overboard with product is to load the brush, tap the excess and start with your cheekbones first. Your cheekbones will need the most product. Then, using the leftover product, dust the bronzer across your nose and forehead. Natural sunkissed makeup calls for Unicorn Chocolate Bronzer. A spectrum of bronze in a single compact, this silky smooth ombre pressed powder bronzer flatters all skin tones. It delivers a high pigment, long lasting radiant-matte finish. It’s cruelty-free too! Peachy Blush Blush complements bronzer by adding warmth to the cheeks and a flush of colour for a fresh-faced look. You can use the same brush you used to apply the bronzer, it doesn’t matter if the products mix a little. Apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks starting where the bronzer along your cheekbone ends. Meet your best blush ever - Unicorn Candy Blush. Blending from a subtle peach glow to a cotton candy pink this blush suits everyone. You’ll find the ideal pink match for your skin. With a bright pigment, silky texture and long-lasting finish you’ll achieve a beautiful, seamless colour. Radiant Highlight Finish your sunkissed makeup look with a radiant highlighter to accentuate your features. This step is a must for a shimmery summer evening look. Using a soft, fan-shaped makeup brush apply highlighter to the top of your cheekbones (above the bronzer) in a swirling motion. Also apply a little product to the inner corners of your eyes, down the bridge of your nose, and on your cupid’s bow; this beautifully accentuates your lips. Get radiant sunkissed skin with Unicorn Champagne Highlighter. The universally flattering shade of champagne looks gorgeous on all skin tones. Build and sculpt until the highlight level is just right for cheeks, brow bone, nose and eyes with this richly-pigmented, silky ombre powder. Purchase a perfectly matched combination of the Three Unicorn Ombre Powders in our Get the Glow Bundle.

A Guide to No-Makeup Makeup
No makeup makeup is all about creating a real, fresh look with minimal products. The goal? To look like you - but on your best, glowing day. You know, the days when you *actually* drink enough water and get 8 hours sleep. Below is exactly how to make your flawless no makeup look happen. Prep Your Skin How you prep your skin is everything when it comes to achieving a natural, no makeup makeup look. Skincare prep Begin your skincare routine with a gentle cream cleanser to remove excess oil and build up from your pores to create a clean supple base. Bonus glow points if you use a cleanser with brightening ingredients to boost your skin’s natural radiance! Next, gently exfoliate to remove any flaky, dry skin and clear pores for a smooth surface then follow with a hydrating serum for plump, extra dewy skin. Finally, moisturise with a light face oil (suitable for use under makeup) or moisturising lotion and apply SPF. Base Skip the full coverage foundation. You want a barely-there base for your no makeup makeup look. A mineral BB cream or a light, mineral powder foundation are both good options to give you some coverage while still radiating a natural vibe. Perfect Brows The secret to the most gorgeous no makeup makeup? Ah-mazing brows. By making brows the focus of your look (without going over the top) you’ll frame and balance your face. Well groomed brows will help you look polished but natural. The key is to go for a soft brow look and steer clear of harsh lines. When the rest of your face has a subtle no makeup makeup look, you don’t want to go in for heavy, thick, drawn on looking brows. They’ll be totally out of place. Brow powder is a great way to create a softer, natural looking brow. Powder allows you to fill in your arches without strong lines and adds a nice ‘fluffy’ finish to enhance your brow hairs. We love Brow Duo for a no makeup makeup look. This high pigment, 2 shade mineral brow powder delivers naturally defined, thicker looking brows. With two tones, the colour intensity is customisable to find your ideal colour match. Team with Pro Brow Brush for a flawless application. Once you’ve applied the powder, set your look in place with Zebra Brow Gel. Brush the gel upwards through the hairs to continue the fluffy, natural look. If you’ve been blessed with naturally lush, envy-inducing brows that don’t need filling in, you can skip the powder and go straight for the brow gel. Using a gel helps set your brows in place and adds a subtle sheen for a bright, awake looking eye area. Pinky-Toned Lips Your lips but better! A tinted balm will add a flush of natural looking colour to your lips. There’s a shade of pink to flatter all skin tones with a subtle but pretty sheen. We recommend the PONi Lip Magic balm for a creamy finish and pink pout. The magic thing about this balm is that it adjusts to the pH of your lips to create your perfect shade of pink! Before applying the lip balm in your no makeup makeup routine, make sure you’ve prepped your lips with a light exfoliation. This helps promote blood circulation and clears away any dry skin for a smooth base. Buffing your pout with a soft bristled toothbrush is a brilliant way to gently exfoliate your lips. Naturally Flushed There’s something so fresh and natural about flushed cheeks. Your no makeup cheek vibes are all about using blush in a shade perfect for your skin tone to warm up your cheeks and enhance your cheekbones. Using a very light hand and a fluffy brush, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks where you naturally blush. PONi Unicorn Candy blush is the ultimate ombré blush for your no makeup makeup. With universally flattering shades of shimmery peach to matt pink, the silky ombre palette allows you to find the perfect match for your skin tone. Lightweight and buildable the blush is easy to apply with a lighter touch for natural #wokeuplikethis cheeks. Browse the entire PONi collection today. Guide to Timeless Makeup for Mature Women
Over time makeup trends change and so do our faces, not just physically but our tastes also change. Hands up if you are still wearing a similar style of makeup now, much later in life, as when you were younger, perhaps even a teen! Below are my top tips for makeup wearers who are 50 plus. Skin Prep For Makeup Over 50 As we get older our skin types can change, often towards the drier side. If you are still on the oily side after 50, embrace it, this usually results in skin appearing more youthful later in life. For drier skin types, make sure you’re using skin care that is nourishing & hydrating, a favourite of mine is the esmi Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum teamed with their 24K Gold Nourishing Oil for a boost of hydration and moisturisation, as after all, our makeup is only as good as the skin it is applied to! Foundation Selection For Mature Makeup Determine what coverage you would like, for example a tint will be more natural whereas a foundation provides more coverage. If you are on the drier side, steer clear of foundations that are on the extreme matte side. Matte products can dull the skin down, make it appear more dry and are more suitable for a normal to oily skin type. Instead, opt for something more dewy. You may ask, what about luminous foundations? Luminous products typically have a shinier finish & will enhance any fine lines and texture in the skin which is not ideal when creating a flawless base. Lastly, the heavier the coverage the more the product will rest in fine lines as the day goes on, in particular under the eyes and smile lines (apply less product in these areas if you can). You can easily maintain this throughout the day by pushing the product back into the skin with your finger tips. To powder or not? Applying too much powder can dry and flatten the skin. It can also enhance any fine lines and facial hair. If the skin is on the drier side, using a powder to set is probably not even necessary but more so a habit from when our skin was younger. I only really set with powder in areas that feel sticky to touch and this provides longevity of the makeup. Cheek Makeup For Women Over 50 Blush: On a drier skin type I love nothing more than an injection of hydration with the use of a cream blush. They are so easy to use, a little goes a long way and you can even use your fingers to apply them. Adding colour to the cheeks instantly gives you a more healthy appearance. A trick I love for my 50 plus clients is to place your blush a little higher to lift the face and if you don’t have a cream blush at home, try a lipstick! Avoid shimmery blushes as again, shimmer enhances texture. Highlighter: I don’t recommend highlighter when applying makeup for older women as anything shimmery will enhance fine lines such as crows feet. This also applies to eyeshadows - keep them matte. Eye Makeup For Mature Women The more makeup you apply on someone you can potentially age them - this applies to any age. A teenager can look 25 and a 45 year old could also look potentially older if too much makeup is applied. This doesn’t mean that makeup for older women means no more smokie eyes, but I do believe that as long as it is executed well, anything is possible! For the time poor in all of us an easy hack I do on myself is to use a bronzer or blush also on your eyes. It’s so quick and foolproof & doesn’t need to be executed with precision. The PONi Unicorn Chocolate Bronzer works perfectly as an eyeshadow as it features an ombre of bronze tones so you can blend from a light to deeper tone all from the one pan. When it comes to lining the eyes, have you ever considered a brown instead of the staple black? This achieves a softer look and requires less skill as is not as stark as black. Try smudging your liner out to keep it soft and this also hides any mistakes. If your eyes are hooded, make sure whatever you’re using is waterproof so it doesn’t transfer anywhere else. Lastly, wake those eyes up with some mascara. Give your lashes a curl to instantly open your eyes and if you do suffer from panda eyes, a tubular mascara will be your new best friend. I have used in my professional kit for years the PONi Cosmetics White Knight Mascara. Smudging will be a thing of the past, I guarantee it. On that note, there is no blanket rule for every face, have fun with it, try new things and when in doubt seek the advice of a professional makeup artist to guide you into your next look!
