The esmi Resurfacing R0.25% retinol serum is the perfect introduction to the esmi retinol serum range especially if you're new to retinol or have sensitive skin as it is formulated with 100% encapsulated retinol to increase skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen synthesis for a fresher, firmer complexion.
Superior to standard retinol, encapsulated retinol has enhanced bioavailability and stability. The retinol is enclosed in tiny capsules which allows the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin layer before being activated. This is ideal for sensitive skin as it maximises skin benefits while minimising surface dryness, irritation, and flaking associated with a traditional retinol serum.Â
The main ingredients:
Tackling signs of ageing, carrot seed oil is a skin revitalising combination of vitamin C to stimulate collagen, vitamin A for regeneration, and the moisturising benefits of vitamin E. Smoothing lines and encouraging a fresher complexion, carrot oil helps skin recover from sun damage and trauma, including scarring.
Help shield skin from UV and pollution damage with the rich antioxidant benefits of tomato extract. This natural skin booster also aids in oil regulation which makes it a great ally for oily, congested and acne-prone skin.
Sunflower oil is packed with linoleic acid to fortify the skin barrier and encourage moisture retention to guard against dehydration. Vitamin E also helps protect skin against sun damage responsible for speeding up signs of ageing.
Our range of Retinol serums:Â
Start at a lower concentration and increase the % of retinol in your skincare step-by-step, when your skin is ready. This system sets you up for the best retinol experience with maximum effectiveness and minimal irritation.
- Level 1: 0.25%.
- Level 2: 0.5%
- Level 3: 0.75%
- Level 4: 1.0%
Increasing the concentration:
If you can't see any redness, peeling, or any other sign of irritation, your skin is ready for the next level. If you have sensitive skin, you may not be able to tolerate higher than Level 1 or 2.
Caution: Retinol is not a pregnancy or breastfeeding safe ingredient.

How to use
How to
Every second night after cleansing, apply a pearl size amount of Retinol onto your skin, avoiding eyes and applying with caution around corners of
mouth and nose. Allow to absorb and follow with your favourite esmi Moisturiser, Skin Mylck or esmi Oil Skin Treat.
Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight so it is crucial to use at least SPF30 each morning to protect your skin from photodamage.
Can you use retinol with other Skin Treats?
If you are using other Skin Treat serums, we recommend applying the serums on alternating nights (i.e Retinol serum one night and the other Skin Treat serum the next night). Alternatively, use the Skin Treat serum as part of your morning routine, as the retinol serum should always be applied in the evening.

Our Encapsulated Retinol serums come in four different strength levels, with 0.25% (or level 1) being the lowest. If you are just starting to use retinol, we recommend starting with this strength and working your way up. It is still highly effective as it increases skin cell turnover and you will start to see some incredible clearing and brightening results. If you have sensitive skin, you will likely want to keep using the 0.25% retinol serum.
Encapsulated retinol delivers the same incredible results from retinol, however, the active ingredients are protected and are only released deep into the skin, rather than on the surface. This means it is more stable and minimises the risk of surface dryness, irritation, and flaking associated with traditional retinol serums.
Our encapsulated retinol serums come in four strengths; 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%. For anyone just beginning to use retinol, we recommend you start with level one (0.25%) so your skin has the opportunity to adjust. You will start to see results from even the lowest strength. Once any redness or flakiness disappears, you can move to the next level. If you have sensitive skin, you should stay on the lower levels of the retinol serum.
We do not recommend using the encapsulated retinol serum every day or youâll likely experience skin sensitivity and irritation. Instead, every second night after cleansing, use the dropper to apply a pearl size amount of retinol serum onto your skin. If you have sensitive skin, start with just once or twice a week. Make sure you are using retinol at night as it can make your skin photosensitive.
Retinol is not safe for use during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding, so, as a precaution, save the retinol until after nursing.
